Nu Energy’s 52nd release continues ablaze with the fiery Finnish theme, this time heralding an EP from one of the first wave of Finnish freeform producers to break out of the nation’s long dark winters and into the UK rave scene; the massive Finrg PA act Carbon Based. Beginning their journey way back in 1996, Carbon Based comprise of four dedicated production members, namely Toni Eronen, Ari Virtanen, Petteri Kääpä and Teemu Lahtinen. Inspired by twisted psychedelic trance and the seminal works of Lab 4 and the Tinrib label, the quartet quickly gained plaudits of their own with a unique, twisted and soaring style. Sure enough PA residencies at Finnish club Rush as well as guest spots at Sade quickly followed. Not to mention tours to Australia and England.

The new Millennium, however has seen Carbon Based elevate to new heights. Following appearances on Alien Trax, Electrolysis and Electronic, the quartet have found themselves as the most prized act in the current battalion of Finnish sound renegades. Inevitably, the time has come for their debut EP on the Nu Energy label that has been so instrumental in influencing their studio direction.

Featured on Kevin Energy’s first Hardcore Heaven album, Carbon Based’s epic ‘Anger Ball’ is the act’s most fearsome, twisted yet euphoric creation to date and is the sole work of Toni Eronen, who locked himself in the studio to create this beast. It was snapped up by Nu Energy boss Kevin Energy after hearing the track on a promo CD from Richard The Mexican’s Electronic stables, who originally signed the track. You can’t say he doesn’t know a tune when he hears one!

Beginning with clanking hard NRG percussion, ‘Anger Ball’ thunders through intense layers of 303s before dropping into a deep, epic breakdown. Hypnotic, haunting yet deeply euphoric, the main riff of ‘Anger Ball’ is the type that sends shivers down spines without racing off at 100 mph. A truly musical composition that offers the perfect advertisement for Finnish freeform and the Finrg label that Carbon Based spearhead.

Backing up the unique original is a pulsing UK freeform makeover from Kevin Energy himself. On fire with his remixes right now, Kevin pumps the original with a more energized vibe, stoking up ‘Anger Ball’ with a heady mix of rapid-fire rhythms, searing trance synths, raved up stabs and pulsing 303s. A truly epic track that has been caned by everyone from Brisk and Marc Smith to Kevin Energy and Gammer, Kevin Energy’s ‘Anger Ball’ is the perfect pulsing partner to the original’s Gothic majesty.
